A weekend at YHA Lee Valley for both city and countryside. The hostel is a series of wooden lodges in Lee Valley Regional Park, close to Cheshunt railway station. Walk in Lee Valley Park and explore miles of trails through the nature reserves and beside the River Lee. Or if you prefer, it's a 20-minute train ride to central London to see the Christmas lights and maybe visit some museums and galleries.

Film: The Holdovers

Cramphorn Film club is showing the film “The Holdovers”, which has quite a festive theme, and booking isn’t necessary.  It starts at 8pm at the Cramphorn Theatre, Chelmsford, CM1 1JG.

 Cost £12.50 for guests, pay on the door.

Join us at Meadow Croft Garden Centre, Woodham Rd, Battlesbridge, Rettendon Place, Wickford SS11 7QU from 10am for morning coffee. The German Christmas Market is on until 16:00 with bratwurst and live music from midday.

Please post your favourite photos from 2024 on the dedicated CYHA Photo Competition WhatsApp group in advance of the meeting, plus any witty captions. The plan is for an evening re-capping our photos from the last year, plus a final vote on the Caption Competition.

Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas Party at Chignal St James Village Hall. The fun starts from 7:30pm.

Please contact Cress if you want to come so we can make some attempt to coordinate the bring-and-share buffet. We're planning a raffle, quiz and dancing. Bring your own drinks and your dancing shoes plus something for the raffle.

To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map or What3Words ///perform.paler.file) take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. The hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.

New Year in the Peak District

We’ve booked some rooms for 4 nights at YHA Castleton Losehill Hall to explore the Peak District and celebrate the New Year. The hostel is a gothic mansion, set within 27 acres of parkland, close to the charming village of Castleton. Iconic walks such as Mam Tor, Cave Dale and Winnats Pass are on the doorstep.

Please pay deposit of £90 for your bed.
