Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd March Cholderton Stonehenge Mike & Cress Located on a rare breeds farm in stunning Wiltshire countryside, YHA Cholderton Stonehenge is perfectly located for exploring the landscape around the prehistoric stones as well as the timber circle of Woodhenge, Durrington Walls henge and the King Barrow burial mounds. Wednesday 6th March Pub: The Cricketers, Danbury Cress There's no pub quiz tonight, but you can still meet us for a drink from about 8.30pm. Sunday 10th March Walk - Maldon to Mundon Chris B Meet 10.30am at Blackwater Leisure Centre, Park Drive, Maldon CM9 5UR for a walk out along the coastal path to Mundon. See the medieval church and petrified oak trees. Bring packed lunch, pubs and coffee shops back in Maldon. Wednesday 13th March Mountain Safety and Navigation Dave P A fun Zoom session to recap on a bit of map skill and possibly some first aid. All essential skills for walking in the hills. Wednesday 20th March Committee Meeting Join us on Zoom for an evening discussing events for June and trips for the winter. Wednesday 27th March - no meeting Thursday 28th March to Tuesday 2nd April 2024 Easter Trip to the Lake District Dave P We have booked Hawse End Cottage for 5 nights, near Portinscale in the Lake District. The location is outstanding, at the foot of Catbells, on the shore of Derwent Water. Easy access to both Borrowdale and Newlands Valley, you can walk the Newlands Horseshoe from the door, about 3 miles to walk to Keswick, and the Keswick Launch calls at Hawse End giving lots of options for walks around the lake. Directions: From Penrith and the M6 - Take Exit 40 and follow A66. Just west of Keswick, take the road signposted for Portinscale. Follow through Portinscale village, continue 3 miles, passing the Derwentwater Marina and straight on past two right hand signposts to Ullock and Stair. Then take the turning to the Hawse End Centre on the left. Follow this drive past the Centre; we're in the Cottage which is at the far end of the road (postcode CA12 5UE, grid ref NY250210, ///animate.level.thickens or see this map). All bed-linen is provided. Deposit £70 to book your place. Total cost will be arount £35 per night including all meals, plus about £45 towards petrol for those sharing lifts from Essex.
