Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events

August 2023

Wednesday 2nd August

Hylands Park Picnic & Games

Cress

Meet near "Mauros In The Park" café and the children's play area (///crunch.boots.scuba) from 7pm. Bring something to eat and perhaps a suitable game to play.

Access is via the Writtle bypass entrance. Free parking after 6pm.

Darsham Country Centre

Friday 4th to Sunday 6th August

Darsham, Suffolk

Jim

A summer weekend cycling, walking and canoeing in the Suffolk countryside. Darsham Country Centre near Saxmundham is the old Station Master's House at Darsham railway station. Providing comfortable hostel-style accommodation, the location is convenient for visits to the Suffolk coast at Southwold, Aldeburgh, Minsmere bird reserve and Walberswick. We could also visit Ipswich for art, history and culture. We'll probably have a barbecue on the Saturday evening.

There's also an option of canoeing on the River Alde from Iken Cliffs to Snape and back on the Saturday afternoon. It takes about 2 hours, and the start time is dependent on high tide. If two people share a canoe it will cost £20 per person. It's flat water at slack tide so should be quite easy.

The Centre is on the station and on the A12, so easy to get to by car or train. Postcode IP17 3PL. ///gates.lost.rewriting. Parking area and entrance is at the rear. It has several 4 and 5 bed rooms and two single rooms. Sheets, duvets, duvet covers, pillow cases and pillows are provided.

Deposit £32 please. Plus an additional £20 if you want a place in a canoe.

Wednesday 9th August

Pub Walk - Queens Head

Ali

Meet outside the Queens Head, Church Road, Boreham (CM3 3EG) at 7.30pm for a short walk of about 4 miles. We'll meet back at the pub around 9ish for a well-deserved drink.  The pub is quite tucked away, next to the church, with parking in the streets nearby.

Edale Valley

Friday 25th to Monday 28th August

The secluded location makes this bunkhouse a very special place to stay.
