Programme for March 1999

Wednesday 3rd March

Anti-Art Evening

Trudi

An evening of anarchistic self expression hosted by Trudi and Roz. The anti-colouring book is a colouring book with a difference to stimulate your imagination and is entirely suitable for those with no talent whatsoever. There will also be finger painting, so prepare to be very messy!

Saturday 6th March

Saffron Walden Youth Hostel

Jim

Jim is organising a working party to go to Saffron Walden hostel as part of the project to refurbish the place. The 500-year old former maltings is said to be the oldest building in the town, and anything we can do to help preserve it as a hostel will be well worthwhile.

The YHA are looking at major plans for improving the facilities inside the building, and volunteer work for other jobs, particularly the garden.

Jim, Dave, Ali & Darren visited the hostel for a meeting with Suzanne (the warden), the YHA Regional Development Manager and the Volunteer Co-ordinator, together with two members of Cambridge YHA Group. Darren presented some exciting ideas for the walled garden, with a medieval theme in keeping with the building. On 6th March we intend to spend the day surveying the garden and planning the work.

Also, Alison will be co-ordinating work on the soft furnishings and curtains.

Our next visit, when the hard work really starts, will be 17th and 18th April.

Work will involve clearing brambles, cutting down trees, digging out weeds, etc. We also need volunteers to make cups of tea and sandwiches for us! Please let Jim know if you can help.

Wednesday 10th March

Swimming

Lynn

Be like a fish and join Lynn for an evening of splashing around at Riverside pool. Swimming is general swimming until 9.30pm so if we meet at 7.45pm, in the cafe bit as you go in or 8pm in the pool. The cost is £2.75.

Wednesday 17th March

Partly Party! (& Committee Meeting)

Trudi

To celebrate Trudi’s birthday we will be revisiting our youth in the form of traditional party games such as "pass-the-parcel" and "pin the hat on the hiker" etc. In the way of bribery Trudi promises a slice of delicious birthday cake to all who come! Also including this month’s committee meeting!

Wednesday 24th March

Python Night

Dave J

Ever wondered what Tom and Robert were going on about when they guffawed over "wafer thin mints", "all mixed up in a bucket with an egg on top" and dead parrots? Well here’s your chance to find out in an evening of audio-visual mayhem!
