Programme for June 1999

Wednesday 2nd June

Pub Night: The Crown, Sandon

Nigel

A chance to drown your sorrows at not being on Skye with the rest of us. Nigel’s local hostelry in Sandon is a lovely old pub in which to spend a June evening.

Wednesday 9th June

Planning meeting for Saffron Walden YH

Darren

This is the night when Darren tells us exactly what we’ve let ourselves in for. Along with discussions on digging and planting timetables, we will also be going over plans for next week’s new members’ evening.

Wednesday 16th June

New Members’ Slide Show

Dave

Dave’s slide shows are always excellent, so what other enticements do you need to come and fly the flag for any new blood we can tempt into our happy band.

Thursday 17th June

Committee Meeting

Dave & Ali

This months meeting will be held Dave & Ali’s house. Everyone welcome, but please let Alison know if you want feeding. Dinner at 7pm, meeting from 8pm.

Saturday 19th June

Gardening at Saffron Walden Hostel

Jim

Well we’ve done an awful lot so far, but there’s still loads to do before we finish. Helping hands are required for digging, weeding, planting and tea making! Please come along, even if you can only spare an hour or two, we’ll be there from 10am to 5pm, lunch will be provided. Please let Jim know if you are coming.

Wednesday 23rd June

Midsummer Evening Walk

Dave & Robin

A joint venture with our friends from Harlow Local Group. We will be having a pleasant evening walking in North Weald, hopefully in glorious sunshine!

Meet at 8pm at Budworth Hall, Ongar (car parks on both sides of road), for a stroll of about 5 miles.

Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th June

Blaxhall, Suffolk

Andrew Milligan

A cycling weekend, spending Saturday night at Blaxhall, a traditional hostel, former village school in a quiet Suffolk village. North Suffolk is ideal cycling country, lots of off road tracks etc.

My suggested route is based on the Suffolk Coast and Heaths path. Park cars at Youth Hostel at 10 o'clock on Saturday. Offload bikes and head through Rendlesham Forest to pick up the path at Boyton. A short ferry ride across the Butley river (£2-50 per head) and on to Orford, Snape and Aldeburgh. I expect we wont get much further than Sizewell before heading back to Blaxhall. The following day perhaps we could drive to Minsmere, park cars and continue the coastal heathland route through Dunwich, Walberswick and Southwold to Benacres wild life park and return to Minsmere.

£8.35 to book your bed please.

Wednesday 30th June

Pub Games

Passions are bound to run high as we whip out our dominoes and get down to some real gamesmanship. Please bring along any games you’d like to play (shove ha’penny, cards, tiddly-winks etc.).
