Programme for June 1998

Wednesday 3rd June

Mysteries of The Unexplained!

Gary

Sinister goings on in the Charles Peters Lounge as we unravel the secrets of Gary’s new board game. Promises to be both curious and unbelievable!

Wednesday 10th June

Nigel’s Treasure Hunt

Nigel

Well really it’s just a fun excuse for a pleasant summer stroll through the environs of sunny Chelmsford. Nigel has promised not to make it as hard as one of Trevor’s and I shouldn’t think he’ll demand bribes of chocolate like Helen used to - so a good time should be had by all!

Start at the YMCA from 8.30pm.

Friday 12th to Sunday 14th June

King’s Lynn, Norfolk

Helen / Janet

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you...

Helen and Janet have expressed a wish to celebrate their birthdays surrounded by the sweet smell of Norfolk lavender (or was it Dave’s sausages... I can’t quite recall!). Walking promises to be wonderful and there are also plans afoot for cycling, and a chance to explore historic King’s Lynn. Teashops will be compulsory and everyone is invited.

Jim has offered to organise cycle hire in Kings Lynn for anyone interested in cycling. He needs some idea of numbers in advance, so please contact him.

Deposit £16 to Dave please. Total cost will be about £27.

Wednesday 17th June

Cycle to Newney Green

Chris

Meet at the YMCA at 7:30pm for a 14km jaunt to the Duck Inn (OS: TL 651070) in the tiny hamlet of Newney Green west of Writtle. The pub boasts a large garden with pond and excellent beers!. The route will be mainly on quiet country roads taking in villages of Writtle, Edney Common, Highwood, Cooksmill Green and Roxwell. Estimated arrival time of 9:00pm. Remember to bring lights for the remaining 6km back to YMCA or journey home from the pub. Please make sure you and/or your bike are up to it!

Thursday 18th June

Committee Meeting

Tea and cake at Lorna's. Everyone welcome, from 8pm

Saturday 20th - Sunday 21st June

Superheroes Wanted!

Trudi

Trudi wants volunteers to enable a disabled man to achieve his ambition of getting to the top of a mountain (Whiteside or Helvellyn). If you’ve ever fancied yourself in a Mountain Rescue team - this will be an opportunity to test your mettle (as the stretcher and harness are the genuine article). Teams of eight bearers are needed on standby for the whole weekend - there will be a buffet supper at the village hall on Saturday night. Please contact Trudi for a ny details.

Wednesday 24th June

Viper Night!

Trudi

To celebrate the longest night of the year (well nearly) Trudi has offered to escort us on a super walk round Highwood ending up at the Viper for a couple of beers afterwards. Meet 7:15 at the YMCA, 7:30 in the layby opposite the Viper, or 9:00 back at the Viper for a nightcap. The Viper pub can be found on the road between Mill Green and Highwood GR 640019

Sunday 28th June

Nounsley Walk

Trudi

A walk round Nounsley with Thai buffet at the Sportsman's Arms at 1pm. Meet 10am at the YMCA or 10:30 in the lay by opposite the children’s playing field in Nounsley.
