Programme for June 2000

Wednesday 7th June

Pitch and Putt

Dave J

An evening of something vaguely resembling golf! Meet in the car park of West Park Pitch and Putt, Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford at 7.30pm if you want a game, or after dark at the Marsham Arms if you just fancy a pint.

Wednesday 14th June

Committee Meeting

As usual everyone is welcome to come to the Charles Peters Lounge and discuss the future events and trips the group will be booking in the months to come. All ideas and suggestions gratefully received.

Sunday 18th June

A Walk in Suffolk

Chris & Janet

Janet, Chris and Bethany will be leading us on a walk in rural Suffolk, and have kindly invited us back to a barbecue afterwards.

11km (7 mile) figure of eight walk around Clare. Meet at 10 Gilbert Rd at 11:30am. Walk starts from Chris & Janet's house - no teas to be served whilst we wait for others or we'll never leave!

The first loop is 4km to the West of town and takes us the The Cock pub in Clare for 1:00pm.

The second loop is 7km and takes us through Clare Castle Country Park and to the NE of town. BBQ in the evening - bring whatever you want to be burnt to a crisp + drinks. For anyone just coming for the evening, the BBQ will start from 6:00pm.

Macmillan mile week.

Macmillan Mile week is when people are sponsored to travel a mile (or whatever distance) in whatever form. Janet would like to use this Sunday walk to raise much needed cash for the Macmillan fund who provide nurses and long term care for cancer patients, supporting the families and sufferers in their homes and in hospices. The walk is 11km/8miles. Sponsor forms can be obtained from Tesco, who are adopting the event, or alternatively you could choose to sponsor Janet.

Wednesday 21st June

Because It's There: The Appeal of Mountaineering

Trudi

A mountaineering talk focusing on the career of Alison Hargreaves.

"What is the appeal of mountaineering and are both sexes equally hooked? Mountaineer Julie-Ann Clyma and journalist David Rose consider the career of Alison Hargreaves - one of the most gifted climbers of her generation, who was caught in a violent storm on K2 and tragically died - and the media response to her death."

At the Royal Festival Hall in London at 7.30pm (so allow plenty of time for travel). Tickets are £5, either contact Trudi well in advance or the South Bank Centre Box Office direct on 020 7960 4242

Friday 24th June

Play: Blue Remembered Hills

Trudi

Another fabulous production from Chelmsford Theatre Workshop starring our very own Sarah Ashton as a 7-year-old child. This promises to be another corker, so contact Trudi well in advance to be sure of getting a ticket.

Cost: £6

Wednesday 28th June
