Evening bike ride to the Duck at Newney Green. Meet at the YMCA at 7:30pm for a quacking cycle ride through the park to Writtle and Highwood, in order to work up a thirst for a pint at the Duck, pub Newney Green (grid ref. TL 651070, see map). Then we return through Writtle back to Chelmsford. Total distance about 13 miles, but be warned; I never go through Writtle the same way twice. Wednesday 12th July
Committee Meeting As usual everyone is welcome to come to the Charles Peters Lounge and discuss the future events and trips the group will be booking in the months to come. All ideas and suggestions gratefully received. Sunday 16th July
Walk - Bradwell-on-Sea Join Lorna for a superb walk along the beautiful Essex coast. Meet at the YMCA at 10am, or the car park for St Peter's-on-the-Wall, Bradwell (follow brown tourist signs for the chapel, grid ref TM020077, see map) at 11am. Please bring a picnic lunch Wednesday 19th July
Evening Walk Meet at 7.30pm at Budworth Hall, Chipping Ongar (car parks on both sides of High St. A128, grid ref TL552031, see map), for a stroll of about 5 miles taking in Greensted Church. We intend to finish up with a drink in the Cock Inn opposite Budworth Hall.

Much Ado About Nothing at Hylands The Mad Dogs and Englishmen Theatre Company will be performing Shakespeare's much loved Much Ado About Nothing in the atmospheric surroundings of the Pleasure Gardens at Hylands House, Chelmsford. Tickets are £8; contact Lynn, or the Civic Theatre Box Office (01245) 606505. "Fresh from victory the men are in the mood for revelling; the women are ready for love. But behind the masks there are more sinister designs to spoil the celebration. A sparkling evening is guaranteed as Mad Dogs & Englishmen perform Shakespeare's classic clash of wits with their usual exuberance and panache." Performance starts at 7.30pm

Undoubtedly this will be another of Chelmsford Theatre Workshop's first rate productions. Admittedly it will not be starring Jack Nicholson, but it will still be something of a draw - book early to avoid disappointment! Cost: £6 Wednesday 26th July
