Meet outside the YMCA in Chelmsford at 10am, or in the car park of the village hall in Paglesham East End at 11am. The walk will take us to the Cherry Tree pub in Stambridge Road, Rochford.

We are planning to meet up with the Hostellers' Sailing Club, and there will be opportunities to go sailing. See directions. Further details from Lorna.

Wednesday 11th July

Guided Wildlife Walk on Galleywood Common

Lynn

Lynn has arranged for Chelmsford Museum Service's Keeper of Natural Sciences to give us a guided tour of the Borough's own lowland heath at Galleywood Common. Chelmsford Borough Council has been managing and restoring this important habitat for several years. The walk will cover conservation techniques and examine restored areas, habitats and problems.

The walk lasts about one and a half hours, followed by a drink at the Horse and Groom.

Situated about 2 miles south of Chelmsford, the Common's 116 acres provide an example of lowland heath with a wide range of habitats including grass, woodlands, gorse, bracken, heathland, ponds and bogs. In July 1993 it became a local nature reserve. On the common was the old Chelmsford racecourse where races were held until the 1930s.

A contribution of £2 each will be collected - funds go to conservation projects.

Meeting at 7.30pm at the Horse and Groom Car park in Galleywood, grid ref TL701029 (Turn off B1007 Stock Rd at the Galleywood crossroads towards Margaretting, take the 1st right and then bear right into Horse and Groom Lane)

Wednesday 18th July

Committee Meeting

As usual everyone is welcome to pile into the Charles Peters lounge and help us decide future events and trips - all suggestions are welcome.

Wednesday 25th July

Call My Bluff

Ali

A foray into the dark world of strange sounding words and animal cunning. Teams will attempt to gain points by thinking up alternative meanings for little known words and persuading the opposition that it's all true! A glib tongue and a devious nature are a definite advantage.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
