Sunday 3rd June Sunday Cycling If you're not in Scotland, why not spend a day cycling on the lanes around Chelmsford. I plan to ride about 30-35 miles in loop around the East of Chelmsford, probably Dunmow, Little Baddow, Terling, Cressing Temple, Braintree, Little & Great Leighs and back to Chelmsford, with appropriate pub lunch and tea-room stop. Meet at 10am at the YMCA, Victoria Road, Chelmsford. Please let me know if you want to come. Wednesday 6th June Games in the Park Bring friends, family, frisbee and kite and join Lynn for fun and frolicks at Hylands Park, Chelmsford. Meet in the car park near the loos at 7pm, stocked up for a picnic; or if you come later, just look out for the noisy rabble who will be in the field by the car park. Sunday 10th June Janet and Helen's Kite-Flying Picnic
If you enjoyed games in the park, you'll love this! Bring loads of food, kites and other games, and either lie around eating or run around playing. Ideal for all the family, everyone welcome. Meet at the car park at Hylands Park at 12.30, or at the picnic site any time in the afternoon. To find us, head up the road towards the house; turn left as soon as you can, through a little patch of woods, and look for us somewhere on that stretch of grass. Wednesday 13th June Committee Meeting As usual we will be in the Charles Peters Lounge cogitating over future trips and events, esp. for August. Everyone welcome, all suggestions eagerly received. Saturday 16th June Naze Walk Trudi
Meet at the Naze car park at 11am (head northwards on the coast road in Walton with the sea on your right; by the Eastcliffe Hotel take the left fork and follow Hall Lane and Naze Park Road for about a mile; this will bring you to the public car park on the cliff top, GR 264 235, see map). Wednesday 20th June Midsummer Cycle Ride
Meet outside the YMCA at 7:30pm for a leisurely 13 mile ride on country lanes, calling in at the Hoop pub in Stock about 9.30. Please bring lights that work as you will be cycling home in the dark! Wednesday 27th June Venezuela - The Slides! After months of whetting our appetites with articles on his recent trip to south America we will finally see how good Gerry's descriptive abilities actually are. Can the women really be that gorgeous? (See Gerry's story of the trip) Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July Corris Hostel, Wales
At the time of writing, access to mountains in Snowdonia (except Snowdon itself) is closed due to foot & mouth disease. However, it is expected that some routes on the Cader Idris range will be re-opened at the beginning of June, so we hope to be able to do some good walks in the area. Should foot & mouth or weather prevent us walking, there are several other attractions around Corris. The Centre for Alternative Technology is nearby ("Europe's leading Eco-centre" - working examples of wind, water and solar power, energy conservation, environmentally sound buildings, organic growing and alternative sewage systems). There is also the Corris Craft Centre, the Corris Railway Museum and the Tal-y-Llyn narrow gauge steam railway. There is King Arthur's Labyrinth - an underground boat takes visitors deep into the spectacular caverns under the Braichgoch mountain, and Celtica (in Machynlleth) a journey portraying the history and culture of the Celtic people - "a magical blend of myth and music, landscape and language". £19 deposit please. Total cost about £45. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
