Programme for January 1999

Wednesday 6th January 1999

Kilimanjaro

Chris H

See the slides and hear the tale of Chris’s heroic climb to the top of Africa’s highest mountain. Hear about the heat and dust first hand with breathtaking (literally!) views from the crater.

(read his description of the trip)

Sunday 10th January

Concert at the Civic Theatre

Dave J

Beethoven’s 5th amongst others for a superb evening of musical excellence starting at 7:30pm.

Cost £8.50

Wednesday 13th January

Pub Night ~ The Crown, Sandon

Nigel

This charming timbered hostelry is, by pure coincidence, just staggering distance from Nigel’s house. Come along from 8pm for a heart-warming beverage to beat those winter blues!

Wednesday 20th January

Dutch Auction

This annual event is an excellent way of getting rid of all those unwanted Xmas pressies and bits of old junk that have been knocking around in the back of the wardrobe. Bring bits to sell (suitably disguised in newspaper or old wrapping paper) and plenty of loose change for bidding - though Dave does accept cheques! Proceeds will be donated to the YMCA.

Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th January

Tanners Hatch Weekend

Nigel

Spend your weekend in this gorgeous woodsman’s cottage tucked away deep in a National Trust woodland in Surrey. Superb scenery and open fire guaranteed, but bring your thermals anyway - it will be cold!

There is no road access to the hostel; you have to park at the National Trust car park and walk ¾ mile through the woods (so don't bring too much luggage but bring a torch!)

Total cost £20 to Dave to book your bed.

Wednesday 27th January

Internet Evening

Jim

Get surfing tonight! The YMCA now has a cyber-café. Research for your hols, or look up some of those weird web sites that Helen has told us about. Absolutely bound to be both informative and educational, no experience needed!

Cost about £2 per hour that you are on the computer.

Friday 29th January

Himalayan Kingdoms

Dave J

Himalayan Kingdoms Ltd is a company which specialises in organising holidays to the many countries of the Himalaya ( Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Sikkim etc.). Whether you’ve always or never wanted to go this slide show is going to show you exactly what you’re missing! It should be spectacular.

The venue is King Edward VI Grammar School, Broomfield Rd, Chelmsford. Doors open at 7pm and the programme ends at 9. Tickets cost a mere £3, including a donation to Tibetan charities.

As tickets have to be booked two weeks in advance, please let Dave know if you are interested ASAP as there may only be a limited number available.
