Programme for December 1998

Wednesday 2nd December

Quotations!

Trudi

A hilarious game which involves matching famous people with their most famous and witty remarks!

Sunday 6th December

Terling walk

Nigel

Just time for a nice healthy walk before you load yourself up with all the joys of the coming season. The walk will be approximately 6 miles long with lunch at the Square and Compasses in Fuller Street. Please let Nigel know if you’re coming by Wednesday 2nd at the very latest. Meeting 9:45am at the YMCA or 10:30am in the parking area opposite Terling Village Hall (in cul-de-sac SW from school, grid ref. 770150).

Wednesday 9th December

O’Connors Pub Night

Lorna

To celebrate another year in the life of Lorna Mellor we intend toasting her birthday all night in O’Connors Bar (Hall Street, just off Moulsham Street in Chelmsford). This should prove excellent timing for any of you who partook of the Firkin pub crawl, as you will only just have sobered up. Live Irish music provided free!

Wednesday 16th December

Get Committed!

We will be meeting in the Charles Peters lounge at the YMCA to discuss all the exciting events we’d like to have next year. If you have any suggestions for trips, Wednesday evenings or exciting excursions, please come along and share them so we can get them in next years programme.

Saturday 19th December

Christmas Dinner

Lorna

Our traditional gut-busting food-fest! Two enormous turkeys, with the usual mountain of crisply roasted spuds and succulent veg , all for just £5! How do we do it? The answer is by getting loads of volunteers to peel, chop, boil and roast. We also need someone to organise tables and napkins in the hall.

All members and guests welcome, but please pay by 10th December so we know how much food to buy. And say if you want a vegetarian option.

£5 to Dave. Volunteers to Lorna.

Empty stomachs to Chignal St James Village Hall 8pm, bring your own drinks.

Wednesday 23rd December

"Men at Arms" at the Old Court Theatre

This year the Chelmsford Theatre Workshop are doing Terry Pratchett's "Men at Arms" at The Old Court Theatre in Springfield Road. Experience tells us that this will be hilariously funny, well portrayed and an excellent addition to our programme. Please book very early to avoid disappointment (i.e. ASAP) as rabid Pratchett fans swoop in by the coach load and pinch all the tickets. Members may also like to note that the performance will include a rare sighting of Sarah Ashton as a dwarf with a beard.

Contact Trudi, or the Box Office direct on 01245 606505

27th Dec to 3rd January

New Year Trip to Abergavenny

Dave

We will be staying at Smithy’s Bunkhouse, which is located on a working hill farm in the Black Mountains within the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales, two miles from the historic market town of Abergavenny, and just below the slopes of Sugar Loaf. It is fully equipped with bunk beds, showers, kitchen, drying room, heating etc, and the pub is just five minutes walk away.

Stay for the full week, or just join us for the New Year bank holiday weekend. The cost will be no more than £9 per night (including food), plus around £15 to the petrol fund for those sharing lifts from the Chelmsford area. Deposit £20 to Dave as soon a possible to book a bed. Note that there are fewer beds than some of our previous New Year locations, so please book promptly to avoid disappointment!
