Turn left off the A130 at Howe Green for East Hanningfield if travelling from Chelmsford. The road has a few sharp bends in it but don't turn off it. Pass 'The Three Horseshoes' Pub which is on your left, 'The Windmill Tavern' is approx another quarter of a mile on the right. Grid ref TL771010, see map. Wednesday 14th February Committee Meeting Why stay at home and nibble chocolates with your loved one when you can spend Valentine's night in the romantic bower that is the Charles Peters' Lounge. As usual all ideas welcome. We will be discussing April events, Easter, May Bank Holiday, Scotland and our summer itinerary. Sunday 18th February
Salcott and Tollesbury Walk Our traditional, annual Chelmer and Blackwater hike has had to be postponed because of flooding along the river. Instead we will do a coastal walk a bit further down the Blackwater Estuary, around Salcott and Tollesbury. Lunch will be at The Hope PH in Tollesbury about 12.30.Meet at the YMCA at 9am or Heybridge Basin car park (grid ref TL870069, see map) at 9.20. Wednesday 21st February Slide Show Unfortunately, Lynn won't be able to do the Indonesia slide show as planned because she has to entertain some VIPs (the Bishop and Mayor outrank CYHA!) Instead, Lorna will show us some of the slides from our Pyrennees expedition of 1990, and I will have some slides showing some of the highlights from a few of our previous Scotland trips, and also some of our last trip to Eskdale (hopefully to encourage you to part with deposits for our forthcoming Lakes and Scotland trips!). Lynn's slide show has been rescheduled for 25th April. Saturday 24th February London Eye Rematch The trip that couldn't be done in November. The London Eye flight has been booked for those who were interested at 12 noon on 24 Feb. We need to meet at the Eye at 11.15. Nearest tube stations are Waterloo, Embankment, Charing Cross and Westminster. Once the trains are back to normal those travelling from Chelmsford may want to meet earlier. Plans afterwards are not fixed and anyone can do what they like, but ideas are the Tate Modern, London Aquarium, Science museum or 'proper' art at the various other galleries nearby. Sat/Sun 24th/25th February Local Groups Conference This year's conference is at Ravenstor youth hostel near Buxton in the Peak District and starts lunchtime Saturday, ending lunchtime Sunday. Anyone wishing to attend on behalf of the group should contact Lorna for the application form. There is usually a contribution towards travel expenses and overnight accommodation is free. Wednesday 28th February Pancake Wednesday When we first asked Lorna if she was going to host this year's event, she wasn't too sure (having just spent huge sums having her kitchen poshed up) - but we managed to persuade her! The fat will be hot from 8.30, just bring yourselves and some ingredients (eggs, lemon juice, sugar, stewed apple, chicken curry, cheese, etc.). Contact Lorna for directions to her house. We may stroll along to Judge Tindal's Tavern around 9.30 (in Tindal St., at the back of the High St.). Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
