Wednesday 7th March Pub Night - The Green Man An evening of jollity and carousing at the Green Man at Howe Street, nr. Gt. Waltham (reputedly the oldest pub in Essex). From about 8.30pm. Leaving Chelmsford towards Dunmow on A130, turn left at the last roundabout (signposted Howe St. And Gt. Waltham) - sign board to the Green Man (grid ref TL696148, see map) Friday 9th March to Sunday 11th March Capel-y-Ffin hostel, Black Mountains CANCELLED: YHA have said that this hostel will be closed until at least the end of March. All rights of way and open hill land in the Brecon Beacons National Park are closed to due to the risk of spreading foot and mouth disease. Capel-y-Ffin hostel - an old hill farm on mountainside in the Llanthony Valley in the Black Mountains (Brecon Beacons National Park) between Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye. On the Cambrian Way, with Offa's Dyke footpath nearby, and not far from the ruins of Llanthony Priory. Wednesday 14th March Committee Meeting Come along and take part, all suggestions welcomed, all volunteers embraced with real affection. We shall be discussing May events plus summer trips away. Sunday 18th March Trudi's Birthday Walk Trudi Cancelled: The planned route is closed due to Foot & Mouth Disease precautions. Instead, Jim will be leading a cycle ride from the YMCA down the lanes to Trudi's in Billericay for a light lunch, and then back to Chelmsford. Road cycling is probably one of the few activities we can do at the moment. Meet at the YMCA Victoria Rd, Chelmsford, at 10am Sunday morning. Please let Jim know by Friday evening if you wish to come Wednesday 21st March Theatre Trip: Love's Labour's Lost The English Touring Theatre present Love's Labour's Lost at the Civic Theatre in Fairfield Rd, Chelmsford, 7.30pm. "Four young men decide to devote themselves to study. Wednesday 28th March Tree Identification Nigel is our resident tree expert and has volunteered to guide us through the complex taxonomy of trees. As leaves will be a bit thin on the ground, Nigel will be using twigs. Feel free to bring in twigs of your own for our expert's evaluation (a bit like an arboreal Antiques Roadshow).
