Programme for February 2000

Wednesday 2nd February

General Knowledge Quiz

Dave J

Yes! Time to exercise your grey matter on all subjects under the sun. Knowing Dave this will be a light-hearted test of mental ability (although he does have all those book shelves dedicated to Fascist Dictators... lets hope the power doesn't go to his head!).

Wednesday 9th February

Ten Pin Bowling

Roz

An evening of chucking big, round, heavy things at little stick things at the other end of the room whilst wearing clown shoes. Who invented this game exactly?

Meet 8pm at the MegaBowl, Rodney Way, Chelmsford. Please let Roz know if you're coming.

Cost £3.75 per game, plus £1 for shoe hire.

Sunday 13th February

Chelmer & Blackwater Canal Walk

Lorna

Our annual pilgrimage from Maldon to Chelmsford to help fight off those Christmas pounds! This is a thirteen mile hike along the towpath of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. Starting from Heybridge Basin, we stop for lunch at the Rodney, Little Baddow at 1.00pm. We then continue on to Chelmsford. We shall leave cars at each end as this is a linear walk.

Meet at the YMCA at 9am or Heybridge Basin car park at 9.20 (we have to start promptly to finish before dark).

Wednesday 16th February

Committee Meeting

Charles Peters Lounge, from about 8.30pm.

Wednesday 23rd February

Canada Slide Show:
The Great Plain to the Pacific

Dave

Chris Jackson, a well-travelled friend of Dave P's, spent last summer on a spectacular tour of Canada, and fortunately he took slides! From Calgary to Vancouver and back, including mountains, lakes, cities and oceans, so if you are considering a visit or just want to know what's out there, don't miss this show.

Friday 25th to Sunday 27th February

Bridges Hostel Shropshire

Lorna

A weekend in a peaceful location in the beautiful Shropshire countryside near Long Mynd. If this isn't tempting enough, the hostel is only 100 yards from the Horse Shoe Inn.

It's in the old village school in the valley between the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones. The Victorians called the area Little Switzerland, bottled the local spring water and started to promote Church Stretton as a health resort.

(Note that the road from Church Stretton is steep and narrow - better to approach from Shrewsbury via Longden and Pulverbatch)

Total cost about £36. Deposit of £15 NOW please.
