Programme for January 2000

Sunday 2nd January 2000

Committee Meeting

After dinner at the Glenbrook Centre, Peak District, when you are all too stuffed to move away! Everybody welcome as we need first rate ideas for the coming year's activities.

Wednesday 5th January

Pictionary

Dave J

A test of non-verbal communication rather than artistic ability (who will ever forget Gary's rendition of "shag-pile carpet"?). Loads of fun and a chance to find out how everyone celebrated the Millennium, that is of course if they didn't have the good sense to join us at Glenbrook.

Monday 10th January

Film: The Italian Job

Dave

Part of the film Season at the Cramphorn Theatre, Fairfield Road, Chelmsford (near the bus station). The classic sixties film starring Michael Caine, Noel Coward and several minis! Astounding car stunts in the traffic-jammed streets of Turin.

Tickets are £3.75. Dave will get tickets for anyone who gives him money before Christmas, or call the box office on 01245 606505. Starts 8pm, but get there earlier because seats are not numbered.

Wednesday 12th January

Pub Night: Pig & Whistle

The Pig & Whistle is in Chignal Road, Chignal Smealy (grid ref 679112). We'll be there from about 8.30pm.

Sunday 16th January

Sunday Walk: Henham

Dave

A walk from the picturesque village of Henham, known for its wide greens and many ponds, and also for the mysterious "winged serpent".

Meet at The Cock PH, Henham at 10.30am. We will leave our lunch order at the pub and go for a walk of about 5 miles before lunch. A further stroll in the afternoon is possible.

(About ¾hr from Chelmsford: A130 to Dunmow, A120 towards Stortford, turn right at Takeley X roads to Elsenham, right onto B1051, next left to Henham, left in Henham and the Cock is on the right, large car park at rear, grid ref 546287)

Please let Dave know if you're coming.

Wednesday 19th January

Dutch Auction

Lynn Hawkins

This annual event is an excellent way of getting rid of all those unwanted Xmas pressies and bits of old junk that have been knocking around in the back of the wardrobe. Bring bits to sell (suitably disguised in newspaper or old wrapping paper) and plenty of loose change for bidding - though Dave does accept cheques! Proceeds will be donated to the YMCA.

Wednesday 26th January

Peru - The Pictures

Chris H

A while back Chris sneaked off to Peru without telling us, had a wonderful time and came back with loads of terrific slides. So if you’re interested in the Inca Trail and "lost cities" or just want to see the mountainous jungle of the region, come tonight and prepare to be amazed!

Friday 28th to Sunday 30th January

Norwich Hostel Weekend

Lorna

Just to prove there is more to Norwich than Coleman's Mustard and Delia Smith, spend a weekend in this super Cathedral City. There's a plan for a walk around Reedham on Saturday, including a brewery visit. Also, for the aspiring globe-trotters amongst us, our well-travelled friend Ian Dinmore has offered to host a "Round the World in 80 Minutes" slide show, which should make sensational viewing, followed by a pub crawl in Norwich. There is also a plan to meet up with members of Norwich Group for a walk on Sunday in Lord Anson's Wood with a good pub at North Walsham.

Miss out at your peril!

Deposit £19 please. Total cost around £30.
