Staying at YHA South Downs, at Southease, a refurbished Sussex farmhouse in an enviable location right on the South Downs Way. Ideal for walking in the rolling Sussex countryside. Brighton is just a 25 minute train journey away too, with Southease station on the hostel's doorstep.

Either emailed to Ali or posted directly onto the CYHA Facebook page. Please include #PhotoComp2023 in your post, plus the hashtag for the category as below. Use comments to add captions. We will be looking at Facebook "likes" to determine a shortlist for voting on Zoom tonight.

Walk: Hatfield Peverel

Meet at Hatfield Peverel playing fields, CM3 2LS, at 10:30am for a walk of about 8 miles to Papermill Lock and back. Please bring lunch, but there should be tea and cake available from Paper Mill Lock café.

Highlights include the rivers Ter & Chelmer, Hatfield Peverel Priory and Nounsley village.

Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas Party at Chignal St James Village Hall. The fun starts from 7:30pm.

Please contact Cress if you want to come so we can make some attempt to coordinate the bring-and-share buffet. We're planning a raffle, quiz and dancing. Bring your own drinks and your dancing shoes.

To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map or What3Words ///perform.paler.file) take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. The hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.

New Year in Cheddar, Somerset

We're renting "The Barton", which is a self-contained annexe of YHA Cheddar hostel in Somerset.

We can walk in the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels, visit the caves, the gorge and the cheese shops. The cities of Bath and Bristol, and the seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare, are only a few miles away.

All bedding is provided.

Directions: From the A371, at the War Memorial turn left if coming from Axbridge or right from Wells into "The Hayes". The hostel is on the left immediately after the school.
