Programme for September 1999

Wednesday 1st September

Movie Night

Jim / Nigel

Our night of high jinx on the information superhighway has had to be cancelled as the YMCA has had their Internet connection severed! To compensate for any disappointment Jim and Nigel have offered to organise a trip to the cinema instead. Obviously we don't yet know what's on and when it starts, so please contact either Jim or Nigel nearer the time if you're interested.

Wednesday 8th September

Pub Night at the Green Man

Drinkies at the Green Man in Howe Street (near Great Waltham). A lovely old pub and a chance to see how many have returned unscathed from the Poland trip. Beer and anecdotes, a good time guaranteed.

Leaving Chelmsford towards Dunmow on A130, turn left at the last roundabout - sign board to the Green Man (grid ref 696148)

Saturday/Sunday 11th/12th September

Gardening and Heritage Open Day at Saffron Walden Hostel

Jim

This open day is organised through English Heritage. All over the country fascinating historic houses not normally accessible to the public will be opening their doors. Saffron Walden Hostel is one of them!

Dave Nichols, the YHA Operations Manager for the region will be at the hostel, which will give us the opportunity to really get the ball rolling with the garden project.

We need 2 or 3 people each day (11-4 Sat, 11-2 Sun) to help show visitors around. We also hope to continue our work in the garden by levelling off the raised beds in preparation for grassing over. Soil rakes, forks, trowels and plenty of weeding required. There should also be the opportunity, for those interested, to take a look round the other properties in the town also taking part in the open day (I believe there are usually 3 or 4).

For more information, and to register interest, please contact Jim.

Slide Show Australia

Gareth

Many of you may well know that Gareth and Karen have recently returned from a trip Down Under raving about what a brilliant time they had. If that were not enough they are now planning to rub our noses in it with an evening of their spectacular slides. I’m jealous already.
