Saturday 1st August Caroline & Steve's Barn Dance Everyone is invited to celebrate Caroline & Steve's wedding with a Barn Dance at Runnymede Hall, Thundersley, Benfleet at 7pm. How to get there: From Chelmsford, follow A130 towards Canvey Island, then left at the "magic roundabout" following signs A13 Southend up a hill (Bread & Cheese pub right at top of hill), Runnymede Hall is about ½ mile past pub on left (next to swimming pool). Sunday 2nd August Chris & Janet's House-Warming Walk & Barbecue Chris & JanetWith a bit of luck Chris & Janet will be settled into their new house by now, and they've invited everyone to join them this afternoon for an 8 mile circular walk around Clare and Cavendish, followed by a barbecue in the evening. Come for 2.30pm. Wednesday 5th August Pictionary Dave J A test of skill and the ability to find meaning in poorly scrawled drawings. Guaranteed to be a vicious, cut-throat competition with plenty of laughs! Saturday 8th / Sunday 9th August Cycling to Epping Forest Youth Hostel Cycling trip from Chelmsford to Epping Forest, stay at Epping Forest Youth Hostel Saturday night, and return Sunday. (Distance about 35 miles each way). The hostel is small and traditional, hidden in the depths of the Forest. We’ll probably have a pub meal on Saturday night. £8 needed to book your hostel bed. Wednesday 12th August Proms! Prepare to be cultured revelling in large dose of Beethoven's Heroica with Hayden & Gluck thrown in! Meet in the queue at the Royal Albert Hall at 6pm or earlier if possible.
Wednesday 19th August Table Tennis
Another attempt by Dave to get us fit this summer! Still, now we have no Helen(seriously competitive)Leech to worry about, we can at least expect to come home uninjured. Please let Dave know at least a week in advance if you want to come as he has to book the tables. You may need to supply your own bat and ball, as we aren't sure if Riverside hire them. Meet at riverside for 8pm. Cost £7.50 per table hired. Thursday 20th August Committee Meeting Dave J At Daves house in North Springfield. Another chance to eat buns and drink tea at the committees expense! Please either come along in person or communicate any ideas you have for trips, activities or events for the group to one of the committee members (if it's Trudi or Alison, make sure they write it down). All contributions gratefully received. Wednesday 26th August Bridge Building Using nothing but newspaper, very little sellotape and all the engineering know-how you can muster, teams will be building strong, elegant structures, the best of which will win a superb prize! Absolutely no cheating allowed. Please bring newspaper and scissors. Friday 28th to Monday 31st August August Bank Holiday in Mid Wales Friday night at Welsh Bicknor - a large house on the bank of the River Wye in the Forest of Dean, near Symonds Yat. Lots of scenic walks. Saturday and Sunday nights, get away from the bank holiday crowds in the depths of Mid Wales at Bryn Poeth Uchaf hostel, just north of the Brecon Beacons. This is an isolated former farmhouse in a delightful (and very rural!) location. Gas lighting, no electricity, half mile walk from the road, but it's worth it for the real "mountain hut" experience! Total cost of the weekend will be no more than £45. £20 deposit to book your place please. |
