Saturday 3rd October George's Birthday Bash Celebrate George's birthday in the usual gut-busting style with a meal out, probably at Swingfields, Latchingdon. Please let George know if you want to join us. Wednesday 7th October Annual General Meeting Yes it’s that time of year again! Please come and voice your opinions, vote or volunteer for the committee (new blood always welcome). The bigger the attendance the better - this is the one important evening of the year; come and be part of it. Staying at Fenny Bentley Scout Centre, a former school in a picturesque village near Ashbourne, Derbyshire, in the Peak National Park. It is an excellent base for walking, and also bicycles may be hired on the scenic Tissington Trail along the former Ashbourne to Buxton railway. There are many other tourist attractions in the area, and there will also be a trip to Alton Towers theme park for anyone interested. How to find it: from Ashbourne take the A515 towards Buxton. The centre is on the right after 3 miles (by the phone box). See OS sheet 119 grid ref 175502. Important: bring your own crockery, cutlery and sleeping bag. A £10 deposit will secure your bed. Total cost will be around £25.

Talk about future events and trips that YOU want to go on, or just come for tea & cakes.Sunday 18th October Dave's Birthday Ramble Accompany Dave on this leisurely walk plus lunch, he will undoubtedly need help manoeuvring his zimmer-frame. The walk will be about 8 miles, starting from Thaxted. Lunch will be at the Swan, Great Easton, and we'll finish with a tea shop in Thaxted. Meet at the YMCA at 10am or the car park in Thaxted (turn right following P signs). Please let Dave know if you're coming so we can book a table at the pub and co-ordinate lifts from Chelmsford. Wednesday 21st October Titanic! You've seen the film and the documentaries, now find out what really happened to the most famous ship in the world! Although we can't promise Kate Winslet's heaving bosom or Leonardo Di Caprio's boyish good looks, Ian will explain all the dramatic happenings with gleanings from the archives and snippets from the Hollywood versions. Wednesday 28th October Spectacular Skye Just to whet your appetites for next years Scotland trip, D of E leader and Skye enthusiast Fred will be guiding us around this magnificent isle with the aid of his vast collection of spectacular slides. Whether you've been, plan to go or just like beautiful scenes, this is an unmissable event.
