The Monthly Newsletter of Chelmsford YHA Local Group - November 1997
Those attending this year's exciting Annual General Meeting were left reeling after it was revealed that our (hitherto) loyal servant of the newsletter had plans not only to resign as Editor, but also to leave town! Curvaceous blonde, Helen Leech, 21, admitted to some regrets at leaving, but confessed that the lure of promotion and a job she found interesting had been too great to turn down. Her new mission is to infiltrate the Library service in Gloucester primarily to network their community information. On facing allegations of future floor space on Friday nights her response was: "Well, um, err..." The greatest fear is that her departure will herald the descent of the Newsletter into grimy, sensationalistic, tabloid journalism. Other shock news included the appointment of Trudi Warner as the new Chairperson. When asked to comment on her forthcoming policy, Trudi, curvaceous blonde, 21, stated that she would try not to let the power and undoubted fame go to her head. See back page for Lorna's report of the A.G.M..
This should really be a cautionary tale about eating too much, but since we do it every year and patently enjoy it, there seems little point in making it so. This year sixteen of us had the pleasure of stuffing ourselves to bursting point in honour of George's birthday, including some seldom seen members such as Roger Jones and the Bromhams (sans anklebiters). Swingfields Driving Range reverberated with happy chatter as we relieved the groaning tables of their mountains of nosh, and later the noise of our dragging our distended stomachs across the gravel car park to our vehicles. A jolly fine night was had by all and I personally promise to be nice to George for a whole year so I can get invited to the next one. Many happy returns!
Six of us had a spendid time in the Old Smoke being guided around the City of London. Led through winding cobbled lanes and past the Thames we were told fascinating facts of history and life in old London. We rounded off the trip with a visit to the Tower Bridge Experience which was excellent fun, in spite of our being outnumbered by foreigners three to one!
Gareth showed us some stunning photos of some of the most spectacular scenery in America, not only the immensity and beauty of the Grand Canyon, but the fragile spires of pink and red limestone which pepper Bryce Canyon, the amazing rock formations of Zion National Park and the perfect natural arches of Arches National Park.
Trudi is visiting Nigel in the US for a couple of weeks and now Hurricane Linda has passed they are doing serious sightseeing.
Postcard from Trudi:
I'm out in the sticks - literally - in the Mt.St.Helens blast zone. No major eruptions between Nigel and myself but as we're going travelling tonight, that could all change! Essential walking gear here includes luminous vests (Seriously!!) - it's the hunting season.
Living dangerously, Trudi
