The Monthly Newsletter of Chelmsford YHA Local Group
It was the night before New Year and all over the hostel, not a creature was stirring, not even a ....but what was that? A rustle in the dead of night? A misguided burglar under the impression we had something worth stealing? Lynn thinking it was 6am already? The recycled turkey making a bid for freedom? Silence falls. My imagination perhaps, or too much cheese before bedtime. But then ...RUSTLE! There it was again! Now certain it was real, I lie rigid inside my sleeping bag, scarcely daring to breathe. Of course it could just be a mouse, or an axe-wielding maniac, but it might be - Oh, horror! - a RAT!! The remainder of my night is spent in restless contemplation of every horror that could befall a sleeping CYHA member until, close to dawn, I eventually drift off to sleep - only to be awoken by a horrific shriek that turned my very blood to ice water!
"WHO STOLE MY CHOCOLATE!!!?"
Everyone had a super time celebrating the decades of Lorna and Charmian. As usual the dancing was wild and dizzying, especially if you were foolish enough to dance with either Lynn or Debbie. I used to think a ladies chain was a sedate manoeuvre - not any more! Lorna would like to thank all those who helped out, and we would like to thank Lorna for organising it.
Yes! We did it again! Fed everyone to rupture point and still had loads left over! Many thanks to all those who helped with the cooking, cleaning and logistics.
Congratulations to Cliff & Kay on the birth of their son Sebastian on 11th December.
Gerry and Anna would like to thank all those who contributed to their Wedding present ( a spanner set, a multimeter and a Dutch oven, in case you wondered).
Lorna has a corkscrew left at the Christmas meal. Dave has a map case, a pair of blue walking socks and a handkerchief left at Glenbrook.
The lethal cocktailllllllllllllllllllllllll(what makes you think I had a droppp already?)
For about two pints, mix this lot and leave to mature (about five minutes, errr! weeks or so)
Third of a bottle of port, half bottle ginger wine (or one bottle red wine for mulled wine), 1 cinnamon stick, 1 orange with cloves stuck in, 2 Sainsbury Mulled wine bags (99p for 6 in a jar) and half bottle or more of Vimto.
It is best left to mature although it will need to be sieved but the spice bags (no not the spice girls!) must stay in.and leave about 1 to 2 inch gap at top of screw top bottle(in case of expansion or explosion).
Dilute to taste.
Regards
Whhheeeeeeeee(good stuff this!) Ian
