Meet at 7.30pm in the village car park by the green for an evening walk of about 3 miles. We plan to be back by 8.30 at the Wheatsheaf for a good night drink.

Sunday 10^th September

Saffron Trail, part III

So, in May we left the Saffron Trail at East Hanningfield. This month we pick up this fascinating slice through our home county, finishing leg three in the county town (city?) of Chelmsford. Meet at 10:30am at the Coval Lane carpark (near the fire station) in Chelmsford for a car shuffle to the start of this 12 mile linear walk. Bring sandwiches for your lunch.

Alstonefield, Peak District

Overlooking Dovedale, this hostel is a comfortable base from which to explore the Manifold Valley and Beresford and Wolfscote Dales.

We have exclusive use of a 12-bed converted barn. There's a large garden, a spacious lounge area, superb views from the open-plan dining room, and en-suite facilities.

From the A515 take the road signposted to Alstonefield. Go past Overdale B&B into Gypsy Lane and the hostel is on your left. Grid Reference: SK133556.

£35 deposit to book your bed.

Madagascar is the world’s 4^th largest island and, thanks to millions of years of isolation, contains wildlife you will not find anywhere else – around 90% is endemic. Come along to John's talk and find out about all the natural weirdness and rich cultural history of this fascinating island.
