Pub Meal – The Three Elms

It’s George’s birthday, so whether you want to help him celebrate or just fancy a really good meal, please join us at The Three Elms in Chignal St James (CM1 4TZ) from 7:30pm.

Please let George know by 28th Sep if you’re coming, for table booking purposes.

Directions: leave Chelmsford on the A1060 (Rainsford Rd/Roxwell Rd), turn right at lights into Chignall Road, after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd), signposted Chignall St. James. The Three Elms is on the right after another mile.

Committee Meeting

Planning events for January and trips for next summer. Please feel free to join us, we’ll be at The Crown in Sandon.

Sandon is about 3 miles south east of Chelmsford, near the A12 bypass, signposted from A1060 Maldon Rd (former A414). The Crown is in the centre of the village, near the Church (grid ref TL744048, postcode CM2 7SH).


Saturday 15th October

London Suffragette Walk

No banner-waving, just a walk around the nation’s capital taking in the sites where the battles for women’s suffrage were fought.

Meet at the Albert Memorial at 10:30am for a walk of about 7 miles, finishing at Victoria Tower Gardens (nr Westminster). Please bring a snack, although there should be some refreshments available en route.

The CYHA annual general meeting. Please make every effort to attend and help shape our club for the coming year.

Including a review of the year’s activities and election of the committee

Tanners Hatch Hostel

An autumnal weekend exploring the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Stay at Tanner’s Hatch hostel. Tanner’s Hatch is a picturesque cottage in the woods, with a great atmosphere. Relaxing in front of an open log fire while enjoying the sounds of the forest, it’s hard to believe you’re so close to London. Walk on Leith Hill, the Greensand Way and part of the North Downs Way. National Trust Polesden Lacey house is a mile away, with its stunning interiors and delightful gardens.

Directions: Use postcode RH5 6SR to get to Denbies Hillside National Trust car park on Ranmore Common Road - the nearest car park to the hostel – free to National Trust members. From the car park cross over the road and turn left, walk along to Four Fox Cottages (on your right) and go through the gate by its side. Take the central track indicated by the YHA signs, the hostel is approx 15 minutes’ walk through the wood (grid ref TQ140515). Bring a torch.

Deposit £34 please.
