Wednesday 1st November Pub Night: The Bell Join Cress and the gang for drink at The Bell, Horndon on the Hill. Voted best pub in Essex and known for it's tradition of hanging hot cross buns from the ceiling, this one is a must to visit. The Bell Inn is just off the A128 at Horndon on the Hill, south west of Basildon, see map. Wednesday 8th November Ten Pin Bowling Watch out those skittles! CYHA go bowling! Ten-pin bowling at Megabowl, Tattershall Way, Widford Industrial Estate, Chelmsford (See directions). Cost will be about £9. Please let Dave know by Wednesday 1st Nov if you want to come. Sunday 12th November Walk to Fingringhoe Join Jim for a walk out into the wilderness of coastal Essex. Meet at 10.30am in the large car park near Friday Wood (grid ref TL986209, see map) north of Abberton Reservoir, for a 9½ mile walk. Possibility of lunch at the Whalebone Inn. Please let Jim know if you’re coming. Wednesday 15th November Pyrenees Slide Show Join Tom and Mike as they re-live the soaring heights of their recent Pyrenees trip. Experience pointy mountains, rocky passes and the unspoilt beauty of the French/Spanish border. Friday 17th to Sunday 19th November Thurlby Hostel, Lincolnshire Described as a homely hostel with a lovely garden, this recently refurbished hostel was a 15th century forge and is in a peaceful setting in an unspoilt Lincolnshire village. There are several walks nearby, including Thurlby Fen nature reserve. The Wool Churches, built with the profits of the local mediaeval wool trade, are a local attraction. For those who like cycling, Rutland Water offers 23 miles of mostly traffic-free cycling along the water's edge, riding through woodlands and open countryside. Either bring your own bike, or hire for around £15. £28 deposit to book your bed.(Total cost of the weekend will be about £45).
Wednesday 22th November Committee Meeting We will be trip planning for early summer and organising Wednesday evening activities for January. Wednesday 29th November Rapidough Helen B A bit like pictionary, but without the sketch pad. Model clues in soft dough for your team to guess the words on the card. When your team wins a round, you have the pleasure of taking away some of the dough from the opposition, making it more difficult for them in the next round. No great skills are required!
