Programme

Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events

May 2021

Saturday 1st to Saturday 8th May 2021

Andalusia, Spain

Cress

Our week in Spain, postponed from 2020, is postponed again to 30th April 2022.

There may be a few places available on this trip - please contact Cressida if you want more details.

Sunday 2nd May

Billericay Walk

Caroline

A walk of about 12 miles from Billericay High Street along the Crouch Valley. Please contact Caroline for details if you'd like to come.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

Wednesday 5th May

Italian Night

Doug

Join Doug on Zoom from 7:30pm as he remembers, with accompanying pictures, half a century of living, working and travelling in Italy, a country of vibrant culture, great history and spectacular landscape, from the towering Alps in the north to the (still active!) volcanoes of the south, with lush valleys, and gorgeous Renaissance cities between. Bring along your favourite pasta or pizza (perhaps one you've created yourself), to eat, while we chat, not forgetting your favourite regional wine or aperitif, and perhaps your own special memories of Italy to share.

Wednesday 12th May

Committee Meeting

Zoom meeting to organise stuff to do for July going forward.

Doctor's Pond, Great Dunmow

Sunday 16th May

Great Dunmow Walk

Dave P

A 9 mile circular walk exploring the countryside around Great Dunmow and village of Stebbing.

Please contact Dave for more details.

Wednesday 19th May

Walk & Leather Bottle Pleshey

Ali

Contact Ali for meet up details. The intention is to walk for an hour or so, followed by a drink in the pub garden afterwards.

Wednesday 26th May

The making of 2001 - A Space Odyssey

John M

Join John for a slideshow on this epic file from 1968. A trailblazer for serious science fiction films after the ridiculous monster flicks of the 1950s, it was the first to realistically portray space travel for long space journeys. Resulting from a twinning of the fertile mind of Arthur Clarke and the cinematic genius of Stanley Kubrick, it has been justly described as amongst the greatest and most influential films ever made. We will look at the themes explored within, the special effects, the intricate and complex plot, and the stunning use of music.

27th to 31st May

Peak District Meet-up

Dave P

Some of us are hoping to be in the Buxton (White Peak) area this bank holiday weekend. We're not expecting to be able to meet indoors, so this is not a normal trip - you'll need to make your own arrangements for accommodation, transport and food in your own household or bubble. But we hope to arrange meeting points for walks each day. Please contact Dave P if you'd like details.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm on Zoom. Please get in touch for joining instructions.
