Friday 2nd to Monday 5th May Lockton, North York Moors James Spend the Bank Holiday weekend at Lockton Hostel (aka YHA Dalby Forest) in the North York Moors National Park. Nearby Dalby Forest offers walks to Brimham Rocks and Forest paths as well as Going Ape and Segway for the more adventurous. There are also walks to the Hole of Horcum and Newtondale Gorge local to the hostel. For a more leisurely day visit Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay or ride on the North York Moors Railway. Deposit £45 please. Total cost will be about £98 including food, petrol and 3 nights at the hostel. Wednesday 7th May Berlin Night Doug An opportunity to preview aspects of the city prior to our visit. Doug will present video and slides of his visit in 2005. Wednesday 14th May Committee meeting We’ll be organising events for July & August, plus trips for later in the year. Here’s your chance to tell us what you want to do. Everybody welcome. Sunday 18th May Cycle Ride: Flitch Way Spring Greens Mick Meet at Rayne railway station car park, 10.15am for a 10.30 start. Cycle seventeen miles to Hatfield Forest Shell House, along the Flitch Way. Refreshments at the Shell House (packed lunch or can be purchased at venue). Cycle seventeen miles to Rayne station along quiet lanes, via Gt Canfield, North End and Felstead. (Look for brown sign "Flitch Way Rayne Station Centre" off the main street through Rayne, 2 miles west of Braintree. Grid ref TL726224, Postcode CM77 6RX, see map ) Wednesday 21st May Heybridge Basin Evening Walk Jim Meet at the Daisy Meadow car park by Heybridge Basin at 7:30pm for a walk of about 2½ miles, finishing with a drink at The Ship pub afterwards. Heybridge Basin is signposted from the B1026 between Heybridge and Goldhanger (grid ref TL870069, postcode CM9 4RP, see map)
Saturday 24th to Saturday 31st May Berlin Cressida We’re planning a
week in Berlin, staying at a Jugendgastehaus Hauptbahnhof hostel in the city centre. As well
as sightseeing and museums, there are parks, gardens and lakes to explore on
foot or by bike, and excursions to the forests and waterways of Spreewald, the Mecklenburg Lake district, and the baroque beauty of Dresden. Flights and accommodation have now been booked for those who paid deposits.
