Wednesday 28th January South Africa slide show Claire Warm up this January with the baking African sun as Claire shows us her pictures of Cape Town and around the infamous Robben Island, and tells us about its history. For nearly 400 years, Robben Island, 12 kilometres from Cape Town, was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment. It was here that rulers sent those they regarded as political troublemakers, social outcasts and the unwanted of society. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
