Sunday 9th December

London Walk

John M

The second part of John's London walk starts at 10:30am on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral. This takes up from our earlier walk around the City of London. Walk from the Cathedral to the West End via Ludgate Hill, Fleet Street, Temple, the Strand, the superbly Neoclassical Somerset House, the Savoy hotel (former home of John of Gaunt, vividly portrayed in Richard II) and Trafalgar Square. Then onto Horse Guards, Buckingham Palace via St James's Park, Wellington Barracks, Petty France, Parliament Square and Westminster. John will discuss the history of the sites en route. You can bring sandwiches but there are plenty of opportunities to eat in cafes and coffee shops. If the weather is bad we can spend time in the National Gallery or Covent Garden.

Wednesday 12th December

A Christmas Carol

Ali

Get in the mood for Christmas with this classic tale from Charles Dickens, presented by Chelmsford Theatre Workshop at Old Court Theatre, Springfield Rd, 7:45pm. Tickets are £10 (£9 for concs) available on the door.

Christmas Party, Chignal St James Village Hall

Saturday 15th December

Christmas Party

Cress

Our plan is the usual mix of fun, food and dancing, starting at 7:30pm at Chignal St James village hall (Mashbury Road, CM1 4TS). Please bring drinks and some food to share. We are planning a quiz and a photo caption competition, plus Dave's running a slide show of this year's activities. Please email Dave with any photo contributions and bring along any prints you have which are crying out for a witty caption.

To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map) take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. Hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.

Please let Cress know if you're coming and what food you'll bring.
