It’s August, so the weather is bound to be perfect for a barbecue at Jim’s house from 2pm. Please bring things to barbecue and drink, and possibly something to sit on. Jim’s doing bread, salads and burning hot coals.

Jim

Meet in Budworth Hall car park, Ongar, CM5 9AR (see map), at 7:30pm for a walk out to Greenstead Green and back (about 3 miles). Drinks in the Cock from about 9ish.

The Hoop, Stock

Wednesday 24th August

Durham

26th to 29th August 2016

Durham and the North Pennines

Jim

Spend the August bank holiday weekend in the beautiful city of Durham. We are staying in YHA Durham: St Chad's college, a university residence in the historic city centre a couple of hundred yards from Palace Green, a UNESCO world heritage site where the Norman cathedral and castle face each other. There is plenty to see in Durham itself, and Newcastle, the Beamish open air musuem, and Weardale in the North Pennines are close by. Rooms are either single or double, no dorms, breakfast is included, and we plan to eat out or get take-aways in the evening.

On Saturday evening, some of us plan to go to see "Kynren - An Epic Tale Of England", a visually stunning night show telling an epic tale of 2000 years of English history through a cast of a 1000, pyrotechnics, spectacular lighting and music. It is in nearby Bishop Auckland, on a 7 acre stage set against the backdrop of Auckland Castle. We have tickets reserved for those who requested them. More tickets are available online from elevenarches.org.

£90 will book your bed and breakfast for the weekend (3 nights).

Wednesday 31st August
