Wednesday 12th April Pub Night – The Angel, Broomfield Andrew If you’re not on your way to the Lakes, why not join Andrew for a relaxing drink at the Angel on Broomfield Road, Chelmsford CM1 7AH, from about 8:30pm. Thursday 13th April to Tuesday 18th April 2017 Easter Trip to the Lake District Dave P We have booked Hawse End Cottage for 5 nights, near Portinscale in the Lake District. The location is outstanding, at the foot of Catbells, on the shore of Derwent Water. Easy access to both Borrowdale and Newlands Valley, you can walk the Newlands Horseshoe from the door, about 3 miles to walk to Keswick, and the Keswick Launch calls at Hawse End giving lots of options for walks around the lake. Directions: From Penrith and the M6 – Take Exit 40 and follow A66 follow road signposted for Portinscale, just west of Keswick junction. Follow the road through Portinscale continuing for approx. 3 miles following signs for Hawse End Centre. Pass the Derwentwater Marina and go straight on past two right hand signposts to Ullock and Stair. The turning to the centre is on the left directly opposite the Swinside Lodge Hotel. Follow this drive along to Hawse End Centre, the Cottage is further along the road (postcode CA12 5UE, grid ref NY250210, see map). All bed-linen is provided. Deposit £40 to book your place. Total cost will be about £22 per night including meals, plus £45 towards petrol for those sharing lifts from Essex. This trip is now full Wednesday 19th April Curry night Jim Join Jim for a curry at the Coach and Horses in Billericay, CM12 9LU. Let Jim know by 12 April if you want to come. We plan to eat from 7:30pm. Wednesday 26th April Slideshow - Indochina John M As part of our Indochina season – following on from last month’s Vietnam slideshow – learn a bit more about the history of the area with one of John’s excellent illustrated talks.
